Our Drop-in Center has a food pantry, and we have partnered with Second Harvest to receive fresh produce occasionally to add to our food offerings to families with children that come to the center each week to pick up their bags. However, we are finding it harder to locate food in bulk and are limited in amounts of cases of non-perishable food we are allowed to buy, secondary to a reduction in food availability and high demand from others. This is certainly related to the supply line crisis but also to the enduring effect of the pandemic.
We also maintain food pantry cupboards at:
- Newport High School and Alternative School (PORS)
- Cusick High and Middle Schools
Breakfast and Lunch!
YES is excited to learn that Washington State will again be offering free breakfast and lunch to all students from low income school districts. This includes Newport, Cusick and Selkirk in Pend Oreille County. Please be aware that each family will need to submit a Family Income Survey with their typical school enrollment paperwork. Please let us know if you need any help with those forms. OSPI offers forms in multiple languages. You can find more info and sample paperwork here.
